This week our grandmother, “Meme”, called and said she would not be wearing any floral pants or pencil skirts, and she would like me to get back to blogging a little more personal news. I am going to try to get back into doing my Weekend Roundups because I really do like to share all of the things we do and things we enjoy about NYC so that my site can be a source whenever you visit New York. Here is a little bit from our week…(This one’s for you Meme!)
After being out of town for my last few book club meetings, I was finally able to make one this week. (even though I didn’t have time to read the book, oops.) Being around a group of such fun, smart, diverse women was one of the highlights of my week. I highly recommend the last two books we read – The Paris Wife and Rules of Civility.
We have been trying to cook at home more and to eat lots and lots of greens. We started going out and buying fresh green juices and smoothies once a day, but it gets so dang expensive. Miller has pretty much mastered sauteed brussel sprouts…I never thought I would be such a brussel sprouts fan, but I want them for every meal now. I guarantee if you came over to our apartment and tried some, you would like them too. Some of best I have ever had is at Dell’Anima in the West Village – It’s a great tiny, dark little date spot with some delicious Italian food.
Location scouting in Brooklyn for a shoot we have on Wednesday
We had a delicious brunch at Balthazar this week – so much for eating green. I have loved this place since I lived in NYC a few summers ago. It is one of those place that has always been kind of a New York City hotspot, but not in a cheesy, trying too hard type of way – (aka, lots of restaurants in the meatpacking district)
Scrambled mushroom and asparagus eggs in a puff pastry- heaven.
We went to an improv comedy show at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre. This is a really great way to have some cheap fun…it is ten dollars a person for an hour and half show. The first part of the show is based on a question that they ask a random person in the audience, and the second half is based on a word someone in the audience yells out.
It was kind of rainy here for most of the weekend. Here’s a picture from our street.
We had some DELCIOUS tacos at Tacombi on Elizabeth Street. Really relaxed, order at the counter vibe and quality food. And they make the tacos inside of an old VW van that sits inside of the restaurant. There’s also a Tacombi stand inside of the Chelsea Market.
A story Miller shot in the world’s most innovative companies issue of Fast Company Magazine that ran this month…This is James Corner, the designer of the Highline Park in Chelsea. The Highline is a must see if you visit New York when the weathers a little bit warmer.
Lately, we have been really into oysters. Next stop is John Dory Oyster Bar in the Ace Hotel, where they have oyster happy hour every day from 5 til 7.
Yesterday, we walked the Williamsburg Bridge to go check out Artists & Fleas, where you can find a lot of unique things from emerging artists, designers, vintage collectors, etc…Artists & Fleas is also open in the Chelsea Market right now- since that’s close to our apartment, I’m sure I will be checking it way too often.
We are really into Netflixing TV shows lately…we finished Mad Men, Breaking Bad, Parks and Rec, Gossip Girl (well that was me, not Miller), and we are looking for a new show. Any suggestions?!? We started Treme last night, but it’s not on Netflix yet, so we may wait to watch more of those. In need of a new show!!!
